Celebrating International Women's Day

We were happy to celebrate International Women’s Day yesterday, recognising the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

While there is always more to do, we are encouraged that a poll in 2020 found that Ropes & Gray has the most gender diverse equity partnership in the UK, with women making up 43% of partners in our London office.

We are really proud that Ropes & Gray is one of the City’s most gender-diverse firms, as we are of the strong female talent we work with every day. Ropes & Gray has always been committed to recruiting, retaining and advancing the careers of women in the law, and our culture of teamwork and collaboration has been an important factor in the success of women at the firm.

Alongside International Women’s Day, the firm is also celebrating Women’s History Month, with a series of fireside chats, which kicked off with Julie Jones, our first female Chair, last week. 

Yesterday, our London Business Support Women’s Network was proud to host Rt. Hon. Baroness Northover – academic, Liberal Democrat politician, member of the House of Lords, and former junior government minister – who talked to us about her career in academia and politics, how she has managed and succeeded in her career in male-dominated environments and how she has supported other women around her. It was an interesting and inspiring talk.

Whilst we have great representation in our office, there remains work to be done across diversity and inclusion more generally. This year’s International Women's Day theme challenges us to call out gender bias and inequality, and celebrate women's achievements. In London, and across the firm, we will continue to choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequity and continue to seek out and celebrate women's achievements.
